What Is A HIFU Facial?

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound – or HIFU as it’s commonly known – is a non-surgical, non-invasive skin tightening treatment that harnesses the power of ultrasound to regenerate collagen and give your skin a firmer, smoother and younger appearance.

HIFU can be used on the face as a non-surgical alternative to a facelift, or it can be used as a skin tightening treatment on the body.

How A HIFU Facial Works

One of the really great things about a HIFU Facial is that it uses your body’s own ability to regenerate to create younger-looking, firmer and smoother skin.

During a HIFU Facial, high intensity focused ultrasound is directed into the deeper layers of the skin. This heats the tissues and triggers the body’s regeneration process.

By heating the skin and tissue in the dermis, we can signal the body that new proteins needs to be made, triggering the production of collagen and elastin. As this new collagen develops your skin will start to look firmer and smoother. Wrinkles can become less noticeable and you’ll see a gentle lifting in the skin.

What Problems Can A HIFU Facial Help You With?

The benefits of a HIFU facial include tighter, firmer and brighter skin, fewer wrinkles, a plumper and more youthful complexion.

Because of this, a HIFU Facial can be used to combat a wide range of ageing signs including:

  • Reducing wrinkles on your face
  • Lifting and tightening the jowls
  • Contouring your face
  • Reducing lines between the nose and mouth
  • Tightening the neck and jawline
  • Reducing the severity of hooded eyelids
  • Lifting the brow
  • Lifting the cheeks, eyebrows and eyelids
  • Enhancing jawline definition

What To Expect From A HIFU Treatment

A HIFU Facial is non-surgical and non-invasive – there’s no needles, no scalpels and no painful recovery period.

A HIFU Facial treatment usually takes around 30-90 minutes to complete. During the treatment, a small, handheld device is slowly moved over the skin to apply the high intensity focused ultrasound into the skin.

While a HIFU treatment isn’t entirely pain-free, most people find it manageable. There are some areas of the face that are more sensitive than others, but the HIFU treatment intensity can be adjusted to suit your needs.

Here at The Body Clinic, we use a 2nd generation HIFU device which is much more comfortable than traditional Ultherapy so you can be sure your experience will be relaxing and positive.

Is HIFU Treatment Safe?

Originally invented in the 1940s as a medical treatment, HIFU has been used for over 80 years and has been seen to be incredibly safe.

HIFU technology is approved by the FDA for various treatments, including skin lifting, brow lifts and improving lines on the upper chest and neckline (decolletage). Several clinical trials have shown it safe and effective at refining wrinkles and lifting the skin on the face.

What To Expect After A HIFU Facial

A HIFU Facial is non-surgical and non-invasive – there’s no cutting or stitching and no general anaesthetic required. This means it can offer you some really incredible results without any of the side effects or the long, painful recovery time associated with surgical facelifts.

Many people notice visible result immediately after the HIFU treatment, but the really exciting results become apparent around 6-12 weeks later when your body has had some time to build the new collagen cells and rejuvenate your skin.

Immediately following the HIFU treatment you might experience some redness, tenderness and minor swelling. Around 25% of people say they also feel some slight discomfort too – but this is easily resolved with over the counter pain killers.

Any redness usually resolves itself within 24-48 hours and there’s no special treatment or recovery process to complete. Just follow the aftercare advice that we provide you. You can return to work the very same day and continue with your usual schedule. You might feel some tenderness and tightness for up to 3-4 weeks after the treatment.

Is A HIFU Facial Right For You?

HIFU treatment is a great non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedure that’s generally suitable for most skin types and problems. However, just because it offers incredible results doesn’t mean that it’s the ideal solution for your specific problems.
