If you have skin concerns such as ageing skin, acne, pigmentation, fine lines, uneven texture or scarring, then a chemical skin peel could be just what you need. A Chemical Skin Peel is also known as a skin resurfacing treatment. They are designed to deeply exfoliate your skin by removing the top layers of dead skin cells, whilst targeting your deeper tissues. A Skin Peel stimulates the renewal of new skin cells, helping to reveal brighter, healthier and more radiant skin.
At The Body Clinic, we offer a range of Chemical Skin Peels that are minimally invasive treatments, using safely controlled, advanced skin products. Chemical skin peels can help to treat problematic skin, with different peels being able to target individual skin concerns. A short course of Skin Peels can achieve effective, safe and quick results with minimal recovery time, providing a solution to your skin concerns.
What is a Chemical Skin Peel?
A Chemical Peel is a resurfacing skin treatment which involves applying a product onto the skin to accelerate the turnover of skin cells and reveal smoother healthy skin.
When we apply the Skin Peel to the skin, it causes exfoliation of the dead layers of skin on the surface. This normally causes dead skin cells to shed and flake away during the peeling process. Depending on the type of Chemical Peel you have and how your skin reacts you may experience a small or minimal amount of peeling or a heavier peel effect.
A Chemical Peel can also target the deeper layers of your skin to tackle specific concerns. By treating the deeper layers, the ingredients of the skin peel encourage cellular renewal to regenerate and repair the skin. This can help treat skin concerns such as lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, enlarged pores and scarring; as well as improving skin texture, smoothness and boosting collagen.
A Chemical Skin Peel brings healthy new skin cells to the surface more quickly, refreshing your skin’s natural radiant appearance and promoting a beautiful, clear complexion.
We offer a variety of Chemical Skin Peels to cater to all skin types and concerns. Our Skin Peels include a range of different acids such as:
Glycolic acid is a water-soluble Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA), also known as a Fruit Acid. A Glycolic Peel is typically classed as a superficial peel, although different strengths and PHs can deliver a medium or deeper peel when needed.
It works on the surface of the skin to break down the “glue” that holds the layer of dead skin together. This enables exfoliation of the dead skin and helps to reveal brighter, smoother skin.
A Glycolic Peel is used to improve the signs of ageing, reduce acne and promote an even skin tone, reduce enlarged pores, as well as boosting collagen. This type of peel is generally regarded as a more superficial Chemical Skin Peel with very little downtime.
A Salicylic Peel is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) and is one of our favourite treatments for acne.
Salicylic acid is also a superficial peel and works in a similar way to the Glycolic Peel, breaking down the “glue” that traps the dead skin cells. Once again, the delivery of the Chemical Peel can be deeper where required.
Whilst both Glycolic and Salicylic acids have similar benefits, the main difference with a Salicylic Peel is that it is an oil-soluble acid. This means it can get deeper into your pores dry out excess oil and remove dead skin that can lead to the formation of a spot. This type of Skin Peel helps to unclog blocked pores, reduce active acne, slow oil production and helps to reduce inflammation, redness and pigmentation. Making this a fabulous treatment for acne.
A Jessner Peel is one of our favourite Chemical Peel treatments as it is a medium depth peel which is able to address a number of different skin problems and uses a combination of different acidic solutions.
As a medium depth Skin Peel, a Jessner works to remove the dead skin cells on the surface, as well as the epidermis and the dermis. A Jessner Peel combines Lactic, Salicylic and Resorcinol Acids and is effective at treating sun damage, pigmentation and dark spots. It can also be used for ageing skin to reduce lines, wrinkles and increase collagen. This peel is also great for acne and acne scarring.
As a medium depth peel, you can expect to experience noticeable peeling and flaking for approximately 3-5 days. With this increased skin cell turnover, it can really help to revive your skin.
TCA stands for Trichloroacetic Acid. A TCA peel is a medium or deep Chemical Skin Peel, depending on the strength of the solution that is used. This is our go-to Skin Peel treatment for anti-ageing as it stimulates collagen whilst treating lines and wrinkles. It is an excellent solution for sun-damage, pigmentation and melasma; as well as improving acne scars.
The TCA peel works by removing the dead skin cells, from the surface to the dermis, stimulating the renewal of healthy new skin cell.
Trichloroacetic is one of the stronger Skin Peels, meaning you should expect to have some temporary side effects such as skin peeling or shedding, redness and possibly mild swelling.
5-7 days following your TCA Peel and once the dead skin cells have sloughed away you are left with fresh, healthy skin and have encouraged new skin cell growth. Helping to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Which Chemical Skin Peel Treatment Is Right For You?
Whether you’re looking for the best skin peel for acne scars, to reduce the signs of ageing or a way to get clearer, more radiant skin, then we can help you. Here at The Body Clinic, we offer a range of chemical skin peels including a glycolic acid peel treatment, a salicylic acid peel for acne and a TCA peel treatment.
How It Works
A chemical peel works by using one or more acids that are applied to the skin. Once applied to your skin the acid and the protein in your skin react, causing peeling and exfoliation of your skin.
A chemical peel can target different depths of the skin. A mild, superficial peel works on the surface (epidermis) of your skin to remove dead skin cells and encourage the renewal of healthy cells. Whereas medium or deep peels work on the epidermis and into the dermis to not only exfoliate dead skin cells but to also stimulate collagen and elastin.
Chemical peels can be used to improve acne, pigmentation, ageing and wrinkles, acne scars, skin tone and texture. They are an excellent way to rejuvenate and refresh the skin.
The glycolic acid peel treatment is one of the most popular treatments as it offers effective exfoliation, but with minimal downtime, as it works mainly on the top layers of skin.
If you’re looking for a stronger exfoliation, then the TCA peel treatment might be a better solution for, as it works on a deeper level to not only exfoliate dead skin cells, but to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin to regenerate healthy new skin.
Our salicylic acid peel for acne can help to treat acne by reducing sebum production, reducing inflammation, killing acne-causing bacteria, reducing scarring and stimulating new cell growth. We highly recommend our salicylic skin peel to treat acne and blemished skin.
Our highly-qualified and experienced practitioners will work with you to create a bespoke treatment plan for you based on your skin type, problems and results you’d like to achieve. Most skin peel treatments take around 30 minutes to complete.
A chemical skin peel gives you a deep exfoliation and helps regenerate new, fresh skin cells. Your skin will look smoother, younger and brighter. It’s effective for treating skin problems such as acne, sun damage, wrinkles and fine lines and pigmentation too. Giving you smooth, soft and glowing skin.
You can use a skin peel as a one-off treatment, however, for the best results, we recommend a course of 4-8 sessions, spaced around 3-4 weeks apart.
