Liposuction versus Fat Freezing

Liposuction versus fat freezing

Most of us who are troubled by lumps, bumps, bulges and fatty pockets have tried all sort of treatments, diets, lotions and exercises to spot reduce and target these troublesome areas; all in a desperate attempt to banish them for good.

Sauna suits, body wraps, muscle stimulating belts, diet pills… And who hasn’t cut arm holes in a bin bag and gone jogging in layers of jumpers and jogging bottoms?

But in terms of long lasting fat reduction treatments or surgical procedures that actually work, up until recently Liposuction has been the only effective treatment.

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments performed in the UK, helping women and men transform the shape of their bodies, but with the cost of procedures ranging between £2000 and £6000; for many people unhappy with their bodies liposuction is simply not an option.

Even if you can afford Liposuction – the treatment is very invasive. In most cases the procedure requires a general anaesthetic, maybe even an overnight stay in hospital. After the surgery, patients are likely to be very sore with extensive swelling and bruising that lasts a few weeks.

Results can vary depending on the skill of the individual surgeon. Whilst many people are happy with the results achieved through liposuction, there are meny people who are not, with some patients left with uneven skin, dents and hollows where too much fat has been removed.

In this day and age it’s wise to also consider the potential risk of hospital acquired infections such as MRSA.

Technology in liposuction has developed and treatments such as ultrasound assisted liposuction (such as Vaser) are marketed as minimally invasive or as walk in walk out procedures that are carried out under a local anaesthetic. Immediate results are promised but this is not altogether true. Most patients experience bruising for a couple of weeks and swelling can last longer, the incision points need the dressings changed daily and weekly sessions of manual lymphatic drainage massage are recommended to speed up the healing process (these are not cheap). You also need to wear uncomfortable support garments for 4-6 weeks after your surgery to help smooth the new contours of your body to reduce unevenness and bumping.

In reality results are achieved from around 12 weeks up to 6 months – definitely not immediate results.

At last an alternative..

However there is now a clinically proven, non-surgical alternative to Liposuction that delivers excellent results and destroys fat cells to deliver long lasting results. This treatment is called Cryolipolysis, or you may have heard of it referred to as Fat Freezing or Coolsculpting.

Fat Freezing

Fat Freezing or Cryolipolysis is a revolutionary treatment that offers an excellent alternative to liposuction with many clients achieving a significant reduction of fat cells in the area treated. This IS a walk in walk out procedure with treatments taking between 30 minutes and 1 hour. There is no pain, no anaesthesia, no needles, no cannulas and no down time. Clients are able to sit back and relax during their treatment, read a book, watch the TV or surf the web.

Cryolipolysis uses cooling technology that freezes the fat cells to approximately -5°c causing them to die. Once the fat cells have died, the body metabolises these and removes them from the body through natural processes. No other tissue is damaged during this process making this a very safe and effective treatment for the removal of fat. Following the treatment clients may have mild bruising, redness or numbness but this quickly disappears.

Results from Fat Freezing can start to be seen from as early as 5 weeks with best results being achieved approximately 8 weeks after the initial treatment. Unlike liposuction (which in some cases can leave uneveness), Cryolipolysis achieves an even reduction of fat cells in the treated area delivering a smooth, sculpted shape.*

Many clients find that just one fat freeze treatment is enough to achieve their desired results but it is possible to retreat the same area after a few months to maximise the results.

Oh and did we mention the price tag?
Cryolipolysis treatments are a fraction of the cost of liposuction!

The Bottom Line

Liposuction is an extremely effective surgical procedure for removing fat and sculpting your body.
But before you choose to go under the knife you should weigh up all the pros and cons as mentioned above. Do your research; find a reputable and highly skilled surgeon that answers all your questions and whatever you do – don’t be tempted to go abroad for a cheaper deal. However, if you are looking for a true non-surgical, non-invasive alternative to liposuction that delivers fantastic, long lasting results in fat reduction then you should definitely consider Fat Freezing.
