What does Fat Freezing feel like?

Fat Freezing treatments are used to help clients improve their figure by reducing unwanted pockets of fat. These non-invasive treatments can be used in areas such as the stomach, muffin top, love handles and inner thighs. During a Fat Freezing procedure we chill your fat cells down to a maximum of -10°c, so it’s understandable that many people ask us “What does Fat Freezing feel like?”.

Fat Freezing is the UK’s number 1 body sculpting treatment. Since the treatment was developed about a decade ago, millions of Fat Freezing treatments have been performed worldwide. The procedure is low-risk, pain-free and offers an excellent non-surgical alternative to Liposuction.

Prior to you receiving a Fat Freeze treatment, you should receive a consultation by an experienced aesthetic therapist or medical professional. They will check that you are suitable to receive a treatment, and ensure that you have a good understanding of how the treatment works and what results you could expect.

During your Fat Freeze treatment

On the day of your treatment, your practitioner will begin by taking some photographs and recording your weight. She will mark the outline of the fat pocket and position you comfortably onto the treatment couch.  She will then apply a gel pad on to your skin, directly over where she has made the outline of your fat pocket. The gel pad feels cold as it is placed onto your skin, but heats up quite quickly to your body temperature.

You practitioner will then position the Cryo applicator over your fat pocket. This may feel slightly heavy as it rests on your body. She will then warn you she is about to start the treatment.

As the cryo applicator attaches to your skin, you will feel a strong suction as the device draws your fat tissue into the applicator. This feels like a strong pull and it might feel tight or even pinch slightly.

Over the next few minutes, you will feel the area start to go cold. This can feel like a cold sensation, or it might even feel hot. Your brain can get confused with the unfamiliar sensation. After 10 minutes the area will become numb and you won’t feel the treatment. The area will remain numb for the duration of the procedure.

Whilst the Cryo applicator is attached to your body, you can relax, read, watch TV or even have a nap.

How you will feel after your Fat Freeze treatment

At the end of your procedure, we will remove the Cryo applicator. You can expect the area to be red, very cold to touch and your skin will be completely numb. You might see some bruising on the skin and you may even notice that the skin feels firm and frozen. This is totally normal.

Your practitioner will then massage the area for a couple of minutes. This can sometimes feel a bit sensitive or a little bit tender. It can be a similar feeling to when you put your hands in warm water after being outside on a very cold day.

There is no recovery time required after the Cryolipoysis treatment so you will then be able to get off the treatment couch, get dressed and carry on with the rest of your day.

The body area that has been treated will remain numb for a period of time. The numbness could last a few hours, a few days or even a week or two. If you have any bruising after your Fat Freeze treatment, it will fade over the next 2-5 days. You might feel chilly for a few hours after your treatment and the treated area might actually feel cold to touch for a day or two.
