fat freezing vs 3D Lipo

Fat Freezing vs 3D Lipo, read on to learn more about these popular body shaping treatments.

In the last few years, body contouring treatments have really progressed and there are now clinically proven treatments that can help to shape and sculpt your body. If you’ve been researching non-surgical liposuction treatments and have been typing Fat Freezing into Google then you’ve most likely come across the terms Coolsculpting, 3D Lipo, CoolTech and LipoFreeze. All these treatments are popular non-surgical fat reduction treatments that use a freezing technology called Cryolipolysis. Read on to find out the differences between Fat Freezing Vs 3D Lipo.

How Did Fat Freezing First Come About?

The medical term for Fat Freezing is Cryolipolysis. The word Cryolipolysis comes from the Greek word of Cryo meaning cold and Lipolysis meaning the break down of fat tissue.

The concept of Cryolipolysis was first discovered by two Harvard University students who noticed that children who ate ice lollies were developing dimples, caused by fat loss in the cheeks when eating the frozen lollies. This discovery led to the treatment that we now know as fat freezing.

The very first Fat Freezing device that came to market in the USA was in 2010 and known as CoolSculpting. This was approved by the FDA for its safety and effectiveness at reducing fat via the process of cryolipolysis. It was first approved to treat the flanks or love handles, and later in 2012, it was approved to treat the stomach.

How Does Cryolipolysis Work?

Cryolipolysis is the process of freezing fat cells to a specific temperature. The cold temperature causes Apoptosis. Apoptosis is a physiological process that causes programmed cell death and in this case, the death of the fat cells. So during a Fat Freezing treatment fat cells are destroyed.

During the procedure, the cooling technology achieves a maximum temperature of -10 degrees centigrade, however, the fat cells do not need to achieve such a cold temperature for the treatment to be effective.

Your fat cells freeze at from around +4 degrees centigrade which is higher than the freezing point of water. So when a fat freezing treatment is delivered the target temperature is controlled to ensure your blood, skin and other tissues are not affected by the procedure.

Clinical studies have shown positive reductions in pockets of fat following a fat freezing treatment, as well as proving to be a safe and effective treatment.

Results following treatment are best seen between 8 – 12 weeks after the procedure and results are proven to be even better when having 2 – 3 treatments on the same body area.

What Happens During a Fat Freezing Treatment?

Prior to your fat freezing treatment, you will normally be weighed, the practitioner will mark up where the applicators will be placed on your body and also take some before photos.

Once you have been positioned on the treatment couch, a protective gel pad will be placed onto the area to be treated. The gel pad acts as a barrier between your skin and the device to protect your skin.

The applicator will be placed onto the gel pad and the device will be turned on. You will feel a strong suction as the fat pocked is drawn up into the device and held in place whilst the technology freezes the fat pocket.

During the treatment, you will be able to relax, read a magazine or watch TV. The treatments are comfortable and painless.

Once the treatment is completed, the device will be removed and the treated area will be massaged either manually or mechanically by a treatment called Shockwave Therapy. This aids in the break down of frozen fat cells and encourages blood flow and lymphatic flow directly to and away from the area.

After the treatment, you may experience some bruising and localised numbness which will disappear over the next few hours or days.

You will be advised to follow an aftercare plan that includes drinking 2.5l water each day, limiting alcohol and caffeine consumption and following a healthy eating plan.

About 3D Lipo

3D Lipo is a treatment device that was developed in the UK with the aim of offering an all-in-one solution that could target multiple concerns with just one machine. 3D Lipo is able to treat individuals to assist with fat reduction, inch loss, skin tightening and cellulite removal.

At The Body Clinic, we offer the 3D Lipo Ultimate Pro which is the most up to date 3D Lipo treatment system. The device is a Class 1 Medical Grade device, meaning it has undergone rigorous testing to ensure it meets all the safety requirements for a medical device.

The 3D Lipo Ultimate Pro offers the following technologies for body sculpting:

The benefits of having multiple technologies in one device mean that we can treat a multitude of body concerns for women and men. A bespoke treatment plan can be designed to target each client’s specific concerns which is often a combination of problems such as excess fat as well as loose skin.

Whereas with a device that only offers one technology, such as CoolTech or Lipofreeze, you are unable to offer such a complete treatment plan. So when considering Fat Freezing Vs 3D Lipo, which treatment you choose can depend on your overall goals.

For instance:

Many Mums after pregnancy have problems with loose skin as well as stubborn fat. With 3D Lipo, both concerns can be addressed during her treatment programme. Whereas with Cryolipolysis only the fat could be targeted as fat freezing does is not indicated for skin tightening.

For women troubled by cellulite,  3D Lipo offers a solution that helps to break down cellulite and smooth the skin. Fat freezing devices are unable to treat cellulite as there is no evidence to support cryolipolysis reducing the appearance of cellulite.

And for men; many men have firm, round stomachs. Whilst Fat Freezing can be used to treat the stomach, cryolipolysis is better for treating soft squeezable pockets of fat. With 3D Lipo we can offer an alternative procedure, Ultrasound Cavitation, as this can treat and dramatically reduce the whole stomach area, including harder and more fibrous fat tissue.

In most cases, a combination of all the technologies within 3D Lipo is used to enhance the overall results of your body shaping treatment plan. This may include combining Fat Freezing for pockets of fat, with Ultrasound Cavitation for overall inch loss and Radio Frequency to tighten the skin.

Is 3D Lipo Fat Freezing Different to Other Fat Freezing Devices?

In theory, the process of freezing fat cells is the same with both 3D Lipo and other devices like CoolTech, CoolSculpting and Lipofreeze. The end result is that the tissue is frozen to the desired temperature to achieve apoptosis in the targeted area which destroys fat cells. However, all devices work in slightly different ways.

For most Fat Freezing procedures, the results are typically seen around 8 – 12 weeks after the treatment.

Side effects are similar too, following cryolipolysis, you may experience some bruising along with localised numbness of the treated area. This can last from a few hours up to a couple of weeks. With some devices, you might also experience some tenderness and mild swelling.

Most fat freezing devices offer different size applicators to target different body areas, for example, the stomach and the chin.

3D Lipo devices have dual cryo functions meaning 2 areas can be treated at the same time.  This cuts down on the treatment time. Not all fat freezing machines offer this.

For example, when treating the love handles, the dual applicators would be applied on the right and left sides simultaneously. Whereas with some devices you can only treat one side at a time.

You can treat multiple areas in the same session, for instance, many clients choose to treat the stomach and love handles. The duration of the treatment depends on whether there is a dual function option or not.

Price Comparisons of Fat Freezing Vs 3D Lipo

Prices vary up and down the country and cost of treatments vary depending on the device that is used.

The average cost per body area for a Fat Freezing treatment can range from as little as £100 to as much as £800 per body area. Whilst visible results can be seen with a single treatment, the best results are achieved with 2 – 3 sessions per area so this is a factor to consider when booking a treatment.

At The Body Clinic, the cost to treat a single body area with 3D Lipo Fat Freezing is £195. Or if you were looking to treat your love handles the cost would be £299 per treatment. Plus we offer reductions for multiple treatments, so it would be worth enquiring as to what offers they have available.

Treatment prices for the other 3D Lipo procedures start from £100 per session for Ultrasound Cavitation and Radio Frequency Skin Tightening. Generally, we recommend courses of 8 sessions for these treatments. For further price information, click HERE.

Why Choose 3D Lipo Over Just Fat Freezing?

Fat Freezing is one of our most popular treatments and is extremely effective when reducing unwanted, stubborn fat pockets, but it does have it’s limitations.

A fat freezing treatment can only help reduce soft unwanted fat, meaning it can’t help you with any loose or sagging skin and it won’t help resolve any cellulite issues either.

With 3D Lipo, we combine several of the latest technologies that can target all three of these problem areas, giving you better results and a more comprehensive body contouring treatment.

If you’ve got unwanted fatty areas, cellulite or loose, sagging skin then our 3D Lipo is the solution for you. Perfect for people looking to eliminate stubborn fat pockets and sculpt and tone your body. 3D Lipo not only destroys fat cells, but it can help tighten and firm your skin and reduce stubborn cellulite. Giving you a smoother, firmer body.

We have put together a few simple questions you should ask to ensure you select the correct clinic… thank us later.

  1. The clinic’s reputation: Our best advice would be to base your choice of clinic on their reviews and ratings on platforms such as Google and Facebook. Also, look for client testimonials and videos of their experiences with a treatment or a clinic.
  2. Experience and training: Look for a clinic that prides themselves on ensuring there staff are highly trained and experienced in delivering body sculpting treatments. An inexperienced practitioner will lead to poor results.
  3. Medical Grade Devices: Not all devices on the market are gold standard machines. There’s a lot of cheap machines on the market. When doing your research make sure you’re looking out for proven technology such as CoolSculpting and 3D Lipo. If in doubt just give the clinic a call, they should be happy to answer any questions you might have.
  4. Pretreatment and aftercare: To help you achieve the best results from your treatment a clinic should inform you about any pretreatment dos and don’ts as well as comprehensive aftercare advice.
